Who? I know that's what most of you are thinking right now…. We don't blame you either. After all, how many of you actually knew there were more than two kickers on the Badgers roster? Well, there is and since it's 98 days till the kick-off to Badger football let us introduce you to Stephen Salta.
About Salta:
– He's entering his redshirt sophomore season this year
– Salta has seen action in three games as a Badger appearing in the Rose Bowl, the Big Ten championship game, and his debut against Indiana, where he kicked two extra points
– Salta is majoring in mechanical engineering
History of No. 98 at Wisconsin:
Recent memory tells us the story of another special teams player in punter Brad Nortman and for good reason, Nortman was an honorable mention Big Ten pick his sophomore and senior seasons and sits fourth all-time in career punting average at 42.1 yards/punt. He went on to be drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round of the 2012 draft and is currently a member of the Carolina Panthers.
Another name to consider and a player that should hold a special place in your Badger heart is Yusef Burgess, a linebacker on the 1994 Rose Bowl team. He recorded 100 tackles and 10 tackles for loss in that season. He had 12 tackles alone in the Rose Bowl to lead all Badgers in the win.
