Kyle French to Badger Football 2013

What's up with Kickers and high numbers at Wisconsin, right? No seriously, we're now already on to our 2nd kicker in our countdown to 2013 Badger football kick-off on August 31st.

Today it's Kyle French to Badger football, meaning it's all of 94 days away. After struggling a bit in 2012 and getting some push from Jack Russell it appears that French has the confidence back and the confidence of the new staff. Will that change as they enter fall camp or has the Menomonee Falls, WI native secured his spot already?

His spring performance sure helped a lot, so let us explore the story of French at Wisconsin!

Story So Far:

– 2012 saw French kick in 13 of the 14 games UW played in, going 10-16 on FG attempts with a long of 46
– He is a two time Academic All-Big Ten selection
– French has connected on just 61.9% of his FG attempts in his two seasons at Wisconsin so far while hitting on 95.5% of his PAT attempts as well, going 38-40 last season (the lowest in his career so far)

History of No. 94 at Wisconsin:

Ken DeBauche (P, 2004-2007): DeBauche is one of the best punters in Wisconsin history and lord knows going all the way back to the start of the 20th century the UW has had a hell of a history at the position. DeBauche holds the single season record for punting average at 44.5 yards per punt and his career average is 2nd all-time on the Badgers list. Not too shabby for a kid who grew up just down the road for your humble writer too.

Matt VandenBoom (S, 1980-82): Not only is the name cool, it's also a great description of what this safety did while at Wisconsin. VandenBoom was one of the hardest hitting safeties Wisconsin has ever seen. A lot of the older generation will never forget his 1981 Michigan game where he had 3 interceptions. His pro career was cut short due to injuries, but VandenBoom was twice named 1st team All-Big Ten as a Badger.
