Badgers football staff takes another blow as Bott leaves S&C post

It feels as if all we've done over the past six months is write and analyze change at Wisconsin and we're about to do that again today as Tom Mulhern of the Wisconsin State Journal is reporting that assistant Strength and Conditioning coach Brian Bott is leaving his post for family matters.

No question the timing stinks as players are in the middle of summer training, which means a lot of time spent with the strength and conditioning staff. According to the article Bott notified players a few weeks ago on June 10th, which was his final day with the players, and is still under his contract until Sunday.

Bott was mostly involved with the offensive linemen, quarterbacks, and tight ends over the pat three years, but Bott has been a member of the UW football program over the past 13 years. So, as you would expect the ties that bind were strong for the players and himself.

According to the article there was nothing but love and support for and from the new coaching staff and the issues that have him moving on from this position were truly family related.

He also leaves with some great memories made with the players, former coaches, current staff and for his family. Especially when it comes to what happens around the holiday's for those involved in the Wisconsin football program.

From the article:

"I honestly hope — I told my players this — that I gave them as much as they gave me," Bott said. "The things I was able to do, because I was a member of the Wisconsin football family, I couldn't have done (otherwise). I couldn't have taken my kids to three Rose Bowls.

"Two or three years ago, my son was asked what he does for Christmas. Some kids will go to grandma and grandpa's. Cameron said, 'We go to Disney World or Disneyland, depending on how good we are.' "

The article did not indicate that Wisconsin has replaced Bott and the university has not officially announced his resignation from the program, a move that likely won't come until his contract is officially up on Sunday. However, moving on and changing things up on the fly isn't anything new for the players or coaches in Madison, so expect whomever it is that comes in to be welcomed quickly into the family that is Wisconsin football.
