This spring we found out that the Badgers were going to be without the services of one David Gilbert as he decided to retire from his football career due to a history of foot injuries. Of course, just like all good retirement stories Gilbert appears to have had a change of heart and will be back playing the game. It just won't be for the Cardinal and White….

So, um, ya…. back when that whole retirement thing went down I remember saying not to expect this to be the last time we hear of David Gilbert playing football, but that was because I expected him to make his way towards the NFL after giving himself a year off to rest his foot and move forward.
Guess that's not going to be happening now, huh?
We'll have more on this as more becomes available, but may we humbly suggest pumping the brakes on the freak out (it's already happening over on Twitter). If you expected Gilbert to stop playing the game he clearly loved then you weren't paying attention all along – it is a bit shocking that it is apparently happening so soon.
Let's also remember that Gilbert is a native of Coral Springs, FL and therefore Miami makes a ton of sense if he does indeed want to further his football career and not do it at Wisconsin. We certainly wish him well in his comeback to football.
