After a disappointing 2012 season for the Badgers Men's Soccer Program coach John Trask is hoping things get off on the right foot this time around and with the release of the 2013 Men's Soccer schedule it appears that this team will challenge itself, but also build for success to begin the season.
Wisconsin will take on reigning national champion Indiana at home and will play eight total NCAA tournament teams from a season ago, including a pair of Florida schools in South Florida and Florida Gulf Coast. In state games also are on the schedule as the Badgers will host Marquette and play on the road to Milwaukee. Green Bay shows up as an exhibition team on the schedule as well.
“The 2013 schedule provides our group with some outstanding matches for the fall,” UW head coach John Trask said in a statement. “To play eight teams who appeared in the NCAA tournament presents great challenges for us and I believe this team is prepared to compete with some of the best teams in the country.”
The regular season gets started with a road trip to Kansas City on August 31st as the Badgers take on Missouri-Kansas City, who are now members of the WAC conference.
Wisconsin will play its first weekend series the following weekend and open up their home slate as they host Western Michigan (Sept. 6) and DePaul (Sept. 8). The rest of the month will be on the road as Wisconsin takes a trip to sunny Florida to take on South Florida (Sept. 12) and Florida Gulf Coast (Sept. 14). They'll end the month with the first Big Ten clash of the season, taking on Penn State on the road.
The following four games are all at home and that's a good thing considering they'll face in-state rival Marquette, then a tough Drake squad, followed by back-to-back games against NCAA tournament qualifiers. UW will open up their Big Ten homes slate against 2012 NCAA College Cup champion Indiana on Oct. 11th and then take on another NCAA tournament qualifier in Western Illinois on Oct. 15th.
Wisconsin's seniors will get a fond farewell as they end the season at home on Nov. 8th versus Ohio State.
