Badgers QB McEvoy Victim of Armed Robbery

Tanner McEvoy, a sophomore JUCO transfer, was the victim of what Madison police are calling a “strong armed robbery” early Sunday morning in Madison according to a statement released by the Wisconsin Athletic Department. He suffered minor injuries and had his wallet, watch, and iPhone stolen. He resumed team activities on Monday.

The police are investigating the incident and believe it was a random occurrence.

“First and foremost we are happy that Tanner is physically ok after this attack,” UW football coach Gary Andersen said in the statement. “It’s terrible to get a call about something like this but we are grateful the injuries were not serious.”

This is the 2nd late summer headache for a UW player in as many years as last year star running back Montee Ball was a victim of a random attack walking home to his house following a night out before camp began. Luckily it appears as though this attack on McEvoy won't have nearly the affect Ball's attack, which produced a concussion and led to him missing all of fall camp ahead of the season opener against Northern Iowa.

Surely this will be a topic brought up to Andersen and the players available to the media starting on Wednesday at the Big Ten media days. McEvoy is expected to compete with Joel Stave and Curt Phillips for the starting quarterback job this season and has three years of eligibility at Wisconsin.
