Wisconsin has started training camp and following the first few practices those in attendance saw a few surprise things and head coach Gary Andersen had a bit of fun with Chris Borland and his athletic ability. Here are today's news and notes from Day 1 of camp. After the news and notes you can see the complete video for yourselves below.
News:
– The biggest piece of news was who started with the No. 1 defense at safety…. Leo Musso. He was a player without a true home for most of last season and it appears he has found a home – for now. According to head coach Gary Andersen the reason for him jumping out in front was his work in summer and the combination of his athletic ability and his toughness, noting that's what he wants out of that safety spot.
– Andersen is making some changes to the look of the Badgers helmets during camp, at least for the freshman and transfers. They'll have to earn the "motion W" on their helmets as camp goes on. Instead of that the helmets remain plain white and the red and white stripe has been replaced with a single black stripe down the middle of the helmet.
Notes:
– Tanner McEvoy took the fewest snaps with the No. 1 offense on Day 1, but expect that to even out as Andersen has stated all along that each QB will get equal reps throughout camp with the No. 1 offense.
– Reports have it that the No. 2 safeties were Jeff Lewis and Michael Caputo – Andersen noted after practice that Caputo is likely to bounce between safety and linebacker as needs warrant throughout camp.
