The Sconnie Scoop: Kickers get day in the Sun

Lost among all the hoopla of the quarterback battle is the fact that the Badgers are continuing to find a kicker they can rely upon. Place kicking was a big issue last year and it may prove to be one in the early portion of 2013, but the matter should eventually sort itself out.

For those of you who have been under a rock since last season, this remains a two-man race between Kyle French and Jack Russell. Both have their moments and a good deal of potential, but both have missed some crucial kicks (but, let's be real, most kickers have).

On the bright side, it may speak to the quality of this year's squad that we are just a week away from kickoff and we are discussing kickers among all things.

Both kickers had their chances on kickoffs as well as field goals and extra points. However, as Jeff Potrykus of the Wisconsin State Journal points out, UW plans on only using one kicker this season

French seemed to be the favorite out of spring ball, but Tom Mulhern of the Wisconsin State Journal details the battle from Russell's perspective

We mentioned in Wednesday's scoop that Jeff Lewis was heading back to the running back position after experimenting at safety. Fox Sports Wisconsin's Jesse Temple writes that Lewis is much more comfortable now that he is back on the offensive side of the ball.

The Wisconsin men's basketball team picked up its first win of its preseason trek through Canada Thursday night. MTB's new addition Jay Swenson takes you beyond the box score
