Early Basketball Preview: UW-Green Bay

Way to stay in character there, guy.

And the in-state games begin. Green Bay fans get especially lucky this year as both Wisconsin and Virginia travel up north.

School: UW-Green Bay Phoenix

Location: Green Bay, Wisconsin

Conference: Horizon

Undergrad Enrollment: 6,389

2012-13 record: 18-16

Top returning players: Senior forward Alec Brown and junior guard Keifer Sykes. Sykes and Brown were Green Bay’s top two scorers last year, averaging 15.9 and 14.1 points a game respectively.

Who’d win in a mascot fight?: Well, I guess this one depends how literal I want to go. (Note: I’m going to do whatever makes for the better story). Regardless, I can’t figure out a way for the badger to win. Either the phoenix pecks at it to death, or just burns it as it is rising again. That drops the badger to 2-1 on the season.

One interesting major: First Nations Studies

One fact to help you win your local trivia night: Uh… I got nothing. But I guess Door County is close?

Coolest name: Keifer Sykes.

Prediction: Hopefully better than the last time they played up there. Anyways, I see the Badgers winning this one relatively easy (or at least as easy as an intrastate game can be. The game will be closer most of the way than it should be, but look for the Badgers to win by somewhere in the 10-15 point range.
