You must be doing something right as a team when you get an offensive and defensive player named semifinalists for postseason awards.
That's exactly what happened on Tuesday as Melvin Gordon was named to the Maxwell Award semifinalist list and Chris Borland was named a semifinalist for the Bednarik award.
Both of those awards happen to be pretty major, with the Maxwell going to the most outstanding player in all of college football and the Bednarik going to the most outstanding defensive player in the country.
Gordon's selection shouldn't be all that surprising considering he has over 1,000 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns in just seven games. His 9.5 yard per carry average leads the country, while his 144.7 yards per game on the ground leads the Big Ten and is fourth nationally at the moment.
Borland is having one of his most productive seasons in the Cardinal and White, leading the Badgers in tackles with 57 (7th in the Big Ten). He also is a leader for a defense that ranks sixth nationally in points and yards allowed per game.
In addition to the Bednarik Award, Borland is also one of 12 semifinalists for the Butkus Award, given to the nation's best linebacker.
Wisconsin is just one of five schools in the country with a semifinalist on both award lists. The others? Alabama, Oregon, Clemson, and Florida State.
Not too bad of company to be in, huh?
