Early Basketball Preview: Marquette

Oh yeah. Those guys.

The Badgers will welcome Marquette to the Kohl Center on December 7th for the 120th meeting between the two basketball programs. Let's learn a little bit more about our Jesuit friends from across the state.

School: Marquette University (Gold)en Eagles

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Conference: The (New) Big East

Undergrad Enrollment: 8,387

2012-13 Record: (26-9, 14-4 Big East), Elite Eight appearance

Top returning players: The Gold return a pair of seniors who were starting forwards and big contributors last season; Jamil Wilson, who averaged 9.7 points and 4.8 rebounds last year, and Davonte Gardner, who averaged 11.5 points and 4.8 boards. Funny, the season where Marquette's biggest strength will be its big men is the same season where Wisconsin is arguably the weakest it's been down low in years.

Who'd win in a mascot fight?: I'm pretty sure Bucky would have a pretty easy task defeating a hunk of gold (above). Just a hunch, though. Hey, let's ask Dwyane Wade!

One interesting major: Women and Gender Studies. Okay.

One fact to help you win your local trivia night: Marquette University is named after Rev. Jacques Marquette, S.J (1637-1675), who was a French missionary and explorer in North America.

Prediction: It should be a really good game against two teams that are going to be quite evenly matched. That being said, there's no way in hell I'm going to pick Marquette in this one. Badgers get revenge for the past two seasons and win comfortably at the Kohl Center.
