Wisconsin Bowl Projections III

Another week, another win. The Bowl Projections this week are actually pretty similar across the board. Again, these projections have no chance of happening if Wisconsin drops one of the last two games. It also is contingent on Ohio State winning the B1G Championship because if they lose, well, they’re getting the second at-large spot out of the conference.

ESPNCapital One against South Carolina and Orange against Clemson. While I’m still holding out hope on the Orange Bowl (and as you’ll see, it’s quite possible) I still seem the Badgers ending up in the Capital One Bowl. I think they’d be able to handle South Carolina in this match-up.

CBS SPORTSOrange against Clemson. This is the projection that gives me hope. First, Jerry Palm expects Wisconsin to be get the first at-large spot. Also, to help his projection come true, Baylor needs to knock off Oklahoma State this weekend to make the Big 12 a one-bid league. He also has Wisconsin in over Stanford, so another Cardinal loss would be helpful as well.

SPORTING NEWSOrange against Clemson. Nothing new to see here as Bill Bender sees the same situation as Jerry Palm does.

PHIL STEELEOrange against Clemson. See a pattern here? Again, same scenario as the past two.

OFF TACKLE EMPIREOutback against South Carolina. I see this as a little low, as this projection takes into account an Ohio State championship win over Michigan State and still puts Michigan State ahead of Wisconsin in the pecking order. This is definitely possible, but Wisconsin hasn’t been to Florida in several years and the fans would travel, which plays into the selections a lot. This projection also has Stanford getting in instead of Wisconsin.

With three total weeks left in the season, it looks like an Orange Bowl is still possible, but here’s what it looks like needs to happen.

  • Wisconsin beat Minnesota and Penn State (absolutely necessary)
  • Ohio State wins B1G (absolutely necessary unless they lose to Indiana or Michigan, which even, then, I see Ohio State getting picked over Wisconsin)
  • Baylor wins Big 12 and beats Oklahoma State this weekend (pretty important, as Baylor has been a big story all year and unless they tank their last three games (which include at TCU and Texas) they are getting an at-large bid)
  • Stanford loses to Notre Dame and Oregon wins the Pac 12 (would probably be the last piece). Wouldn’t it be a kick in the pants if Arizona State won the Pac 12 championship and put the dagger in Wisconsin’s BCS possibilities again? I wish I wouldn’t have even added that…

Next week, we’ll get into more on the teams ahead of Wisconsin in the BCS rankings.
