Potential Wisconsin Bowl Opponents: Here Comes the SEC

Before we get to the big basketball game tomorrow, let’s jump back and take a quick look at some of the teams the Badgers football team could be playing in January.

First, it sure looks as though Wisconsin is going to end up in the Capital One Bowl. This could have happened anyway with Ohio State moving into the National Championship picture, but the loss cemented the fact that the Badgers weren’t making the BCS. There is the mathematical possibility that either Michigan State drops far enough they can’t play in a BCS game or that Iowa could get picked ahead of Wisconsin, but either way, an SEC team looks to be waiting.

We will go into depth on the actual opponent once it’s released, so I’m just going to do some quick overviews on the teams that have been popping up in various projections.

It’s looking like Missouri or Auburn in the Capital One Bowl, but I added another potential as well.

Missouri – If Missouri loses the SEC Championship they drop out and would probably be the first pick after Auburn and Alabama go to BCS games.

  • Record – (11-1, 7-1 SEC)
  • Good Wins – at Georgia, at Ole Miss, Texas A&M.
  • Loss – South Carolina in overtime

Auburn – Similar to Missouri, if they lose, Alabama jumps them for the second SEC BCS spot and the Badgers face a tough draw.

  • Record – (11-1, 7-1)
  • Good Wins – Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Georgia, Alabama
  • Loss – at LSU

South Carolina – Would have to get picked over the loser of the Missouri/Auburn game.

  • Record – (10-2, 6-2)
  • Good Wins – at Missouri, Clemson.
  • Losses – at Georgia, at Tennessee
