The Matchup: Prairie View A&M (2-9) at No. 4 Wisconsin (12-0)
When: December 28 at 1pm CT
Where: Madison, WI (Kohl Center)
TV: ESPNU
Radio: Badger Sports Radio Network
All-Time Series: Wisconsin leads 1-0
Last Meeting: 99-55 Badgers Win in 2010
The Opposition:
Saying Prairie View A&M isn't very good may be an insult to the words "isn't very good." They are downright awful, owning wins over a school I've never heard of (which is saying something) called Schreiner and also over fellow HBCU Bethune-Cookman.
The Panthers can score, averaging just over 71 points a game, but they also can't play defense. Opponents are averaging 87.9 points a game, leading to a -16.1 scoring margin. Leading the way for the Panthers in scoring is 6-3 guard Montrael Scott, who averages 14.4 points per game and is second on the team in rebounds at 4.4 per game.
Overall, three players are averaging double figures and the Panthers do have a capable forward in Demondre Champman, who's averaging 12.2 points and a team best 4.7 rebounds per game. Finishing out the double-digit scoring trio is guard Louis Munks, averaging 10.4 points per game.
Saturday will mark the ninth straight road contest for the Panthers as well and that has to grind on any program. Simply put, the Panthers are overmatched in every aspect of this game.
Key Matchup: This is an easy one, it's Josh Gasser on PVAMU's only real chance, Scott.
Wisconsin needs to keep him in check and Gasser is perhaps the best perimeter defender the Badgers have. He'll need to contain the explosiveness Scott can bring to the game at times. Shut him down and it will be a long, long day for the Panthers.
Prediction: Wisconsin 97, Prairie View A&M 70
This game shouldn't and won't be close as the Badgers look to finish off the non-conference season undefeated and with a ton of momentum heading into Big Ten play. Wisconsin is head-and-shoulders above the Panthers in every aspect of this one and if UW doesn't score into the 90's it would be a shock. Look for everyone to get in to the act at some point and look for Sam Dekker and Ben Brust to have massive games as well, as the style of play PVAMU plays suits their games well.
