Beyond the Box Score: Ohio State 59, Wisconsin 58

This is our life now.

It seems as though we are going to have to get used to the Badgers being a frustrating, mediocre team that can still beat anyone if everyone is shooting.

There is still the chance Bo turns the team around, as he is apt to do, but this seems like some work. The goal now is to keep the streak of top four finishes alive.

Let’s hop into the box score.

  • Nigel Hayes had another monster game. At times he took over. With the way Wisconsin is getting pushed around, it may be time to see what Hayes can do in the starting line-up. Dekker is aggressive, but having two big guys in to start could change the looks. The only problem with this is lack of depth.
  • Bronson Koenig played 11 minutes without turning the ball over. While the rest of his stats didn’t jump off the page, he is looking very confident out there. Here’s another freshman that may deserve a chance to start a game or two.
  • Lenzell Smith Jr. led all players in the game with ten rebounds. Remember earlier in the year when it was our guards leading the game in rebounds? Ah, the memories…
  • Wisconsin’s last field goal came with 6:42 left in the game. Similar to Iowa’s loss to Michigan State, it’s extremely hard to close out a game when you don’t score. Add in ten missed free throws in the game and it’s easy to see why the Badgers ended up on the short end of a close game.

Next game is Tuesday in Champaign. Let’s hope this isn’t a repeat of the Northwestern rematch.
