Wisconsin and 5-star prospects are usually associated with a snowball’s chance in hell. That began to change last year as the Badgers were in the final three for 5-star running back Joe Mixon. However, in the 2016 recruiting class, UW has a very big chance to land one of the nation’s best players.

That’s because Hartland (Arrowhead) Wis. offensive lineman, Ben Bredeson, is one of those rare 5-star prospects UW has a real chance with. On Wednesday night, 247sports released its initial 2016 recruiting rankings and Bredson not only got a 5-star rating, but is considered the No. 20 player in the entire country by the service.

He is also considered the No. 7-ranked offensive tackle in the country. One quick look at Bredeson’s film and you can see why just about every school and their brother is sniffing around the Wisconsin-based product.

With national attention coming his way don’t expect Wisconsin to be a complete lock to land him, but the Badgers do have home-state advantage. Oh, and according to a recent article by our partners at Badger247, Bredeson did tell Evan Flood that his family and him have always been huge Badger fans.

Sure, there’s the 2015 recruiting class to get to, but UW hasn’t had a 5-star player come on board since in-state offensive tackle Josh Oglesby was rated such coming out of Oak Creek high school.
