In what feels like an annual tradition as of late, it appears Wisconsin will take on rival Marquette on the same Saturday as the Big Ten football championship game. At least, that was the hint given by Marquette’s basketball twitter account earlier on Tuesday:

UW and the Golden Eagles (is that what they are called these days?) will square off on Dec. 6. It’s not as if this should be that big of surprise, considering the two teams have played their rivalry game on the first Saturday in December for awhile.
This contest will also mark the third time in four years that it coincides with the B1G title game. The first two times weren’t so bad for the Badgers, considering it meant wins in the Big Ten title game.
The Badger basketball squad lost 61-54 at home in the 2011 game (UW won the inaugural B1G Championship game just a few hours later), while also losing 60-50 in the 2012 version on the road (UW smacked down Nebraska later that same day for back-to-back B1G Championship game wins). Perhaps this is a sign of good luck for the football team…now if only the basketball team could also get to winning when these two events coincide, huh?
