OK, so we missed one day on the countdown. Sue us for being excited over the first full day of action at the World Cup (btw check out Bloguin’s World Cup site 32flags.com for awesome coverage of the games). So, anyway…back to the fact that we are just 77 days away from the start of Badger football!
That means we’re just Bryce Gilbert to Wisconsin vs. LSU in Houston if you aren’t aware. Let’s just get right in to talking about Gilbert, shall we?
Gilbert’s Story So Far:
– Played in eight games for the Badgers in 2013—tallying seven tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack.
– The tackle for loss and sack were the first of each in his Badger career.
– Has appeared in 25 games in his three years as a Badger, with a season-best 10 tackles coming in the 2012 season.
What to Expect in 2014:
With Beau Allen gone, Gilbert steps in to a much bigger role in 2014. He’ll likely act as a backup to Warren Herring at nose tackle, but don’t expect that to mean few snaps for the big guy. Herring happens to be more versatile and could be moved around the defensive line this season, meaning Gilbert will see minutes in the middle when that happens. He appears ready to step up to that role and reportedly had a very promising spring. Look for Gilbert to be more of a presence this season than last in Dave Aranda’s defense.
