The Wisconsin Badgers enter the 2014 season with high expectations of themselves internally, and on Thursday it became apparent that the rest of the coaching fraternity thinks highly of UW as well. Wisconsin came in as the No. 14-ranked team in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll for 2014.
UW was ranked just one spot lower than it’s opening night opponent, LSU, who came in No. 13 and has an 833-654 advantage in the point total category.
The Badgers weren’t the highest ranking Big Ten team, as that honor went to Ohio State at No. 6 in the country. Joining the Buckeyes in the top 10 was Michigan State, who came in at No. 8 in the country.
Overall the Big Ten got four teams in the Top 25, with Nebraska rounding out the crew at No. 22. Other Big Ten schools receiving votes included Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota and Northwestern.
Of course, with the BCS gone the coaches poll means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of college football. However, it is a nice segway in to the season and gives us all something to hang our hats on until the first College Football Poll comes out in October.
