According to a report from our recruiting partners, Badger247, true freshman linebacker D’Cota Dixon will have shoulder surgery and his season is over. The surgery appears to have been scheduled for today, and his recovery will take him past the end of the season.

Dixon has appeared in all three games for the Badgers this season, playing a backup role at inside linebacker and appearing on special teams. He’s recorded three tackles this season.

With Dixon playing in just three games, he should be eligible to receive a medical redshirt year and should be available to the Badgers for a full four years following this season.

Badger247’s reporting also indicates that Dixon had been battling shoulder issues for the better part of the past few years at New Smyrna Beach (Fla.) High School.

Having those issues taken care of now should allow him to be fully healthy for Wisconsin down the road.

As for the weeks ahead, it likely means that Michael Trotter’s brother, Marcus, enters the two-deep roster at inside linebacker.
