Badgers hockey swept once again in Green Bay

The Wisconsin Badger Men’s Hockey Team’s woes continued last night in Green Bay, Wis. with a 4-1 loss to Northern Michigan. This completed the series sweep for Northern Michigan who beat the Badgers 2-0 a night earlier in game one. The latest loss has left Badgers, and fans, looking for answers as Wisconsin falls to 0-4-0 on the year.

NMU started the scoring early. Junior forward, Darren Navin, tallied the first goal of the night on a power play goal for the Wildcats. NMU was 1-of-2 on the power play where Wisconsin was a dismal 0-for-7.

The second period led to a quick goal by NMU Freshman Robbie Payne 2:09 into the period. The shot was deflected by Badgers in front of Rumple, who received his third straight start, and into the net.

The Badgers once again struggled to score. The second period yielded zero goals for the young Badgers and they headed to the locker room down two goals to none.

NMU all but iced the victory with a fortunate bounce of the puck leading to an empty net goal giving the Wildcats a three goal lead eighteen minutes into the final period..

Wisconsin finally got on the board shortly after though. Senior Brad Navin netted his first goal of the year, sliding the puck past NMU goalie, Mathias Dahlstrom, who ended the night with 24 saves between the pipes for the Wildcats. Navin provided the lone goal for the Badgers in the entire series against Northern Michigan.

NMU would add one more empty net goal before the night would end giving a final score of 4 to 1.

Wisconsin Sophomore, Grant Besse, led all players with seven shots. Joel Rumpel saved 14 and the Badgers out shot NMU 25 to 18.

The Badgers’ coach, Mike Eaves, after the game discussed the rut the Badgers have found themselves in, saying, “You know you’re going to go through periods like this, we just happen to be going through it right now”.

Eaves continued to say that the only way to get out of a slump is to work.

That is exactly what Wisconsin plans to do. Work. With two weeks before their next game, when they host North Dakota at the Kohl Center on November 7^th, the Badgers have nothing but time to put in the work.
