There may not have been a more hyped player coming out of the summer elite college camp circuit than Wisconsin’s own Sam Dekker. He managed to turn heads at both the Kevin Durant and LeBron James camps, and that meant hopes were high he’d be a very special player for the Badgers in 2014-15.

Then Friday happened, and the news that Dekker left practice after a leg/ankle/foot injury depending on the source of information. It looked bad according to sources at the time, and Jim Polzin of the Wisconsin State Journal reported Dekker went straight for the locker room without putting any pressure on the injured leg.

Commence collective Badger nation freakout in 3…..2….1….

It happened all over Twitter, but thankfully Jeff Goodman of ESPN had some good news for Badger fans and the basketball team:

A week or two means that Dekker will miss the Red-White scrimmage and the preseason matchup for sure. Beyond that it’s clearly up in the air for the season opener against

My opinion, depending on the severity of the sprain it may be wise to sit Dekker for the first couple of games this season. If Wisconsin can’t beat Northern Kentucky and UT-Chattanooga without Dekker they’ve got some big problems.
