An announced crowd of 8,002 witnessed the annual Badgers Red/White scrimmage at the Kohl Center on Sunday afternoon, and those in attendance were treated to a nail-biter. It came down to sophomore Bronson Koenig hitting a pull-up jumper with 2.8 seconds left, as the white squad beat the red, 57-56.
Koenig’s jumper put him in to double digits, ending with 10 points to his credit. However, he was far from the star of this contest.
Stealing the show was none other than senior forward Frank Kaminsky, who led all scorers and his red squad with 23 points. He added five rebounds and two steals in the losing effort — a loss that wasn’t without controversy though.
After Koenig hit the jumper, the red squad got the ball back and a redo of the side court inbounds play thanks to an inadvertent whistle. Forward Duje Dukan appeared to have hit a fade away triple as time expired despite the extra possession.
However, it was all for naught, as the refs went to replay and took away the basket upon further review.
Dukan finished with 15 points for the red squad, while the white squad countered with a balanced attack — having four players reach double figures on the day.
The White team was led by Nigel Hayes and T.J. Schlundt, who had 14 points each, as well as 11 points, 8 rebounds from Vitto Brown and 10 from Koenig. Josh Gasser was nearly a triple-double man for the White team, but he finished with just eight points, seven rebounds and a game-high eight assists.
While the attention may be on Koenig for the game-winning shot, some in attendance believe that newcomer T.J. Schlundt was the MVP of the game.
T.J. Schlundt might be the MVP of the red-white game. Just canned another triple. #Badgers

The game was played under a running clock, hence the low scoring affair. However, the usual suspects showed up for both teams on Sunday and that was perhaps the second-best piece of news.
Wisconsin escaped the scrimmage with no injuries, a good thing considering the scare of hearing Sam Dekker going down to injury late this week in practice.
Additionally, the Badgers offense appeared to be clicking all game long, as the two teams combined to go 15-for-29 from 3-point range.
Freshman T.J. Schlundt… putting on a show here. 14 points on 4-for-4 shooting from downtown.
