Wisconsin went in to New Jersey and whooped up on Rutgers, 37-0. A huge part of that victory came from New Jersey native Corey Clement, as the sophomore running back led the Badgers in rushing yards.
His 131 yards on 14 attempts and two touchdowns earned Clement the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award. Yes, that’s Wisconsin’s “second string” running back winning a conference-wide award.
Clement was buoyed by two huge touchdown runs of 43 and 36 yards, on his way to averaging 9.4 yards per carry.
With his 131-yard day, Clement has 697 yards on the season. He is also averaging 6.5 yards per carry and is tied for sixth in the conference with seven touchdowns on the season. That goes along with starter Melvin Gordon’s Big Ten-leading 18 rushing touchdowns.
It is Clement’s first Offensive Player of the Week award, but not the first Big Ten honor of his career. Clement was twice named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week last season.
