The non-conference season is past us here as we preview the 2014-15 Wisconsin Badgers basketball season. With it the Badgers enter the toughest part of its schedule and likely are still in the national picture (if you’ve been following along with Jay’s previews).

Finally, we get to talk about the real games that matter most, as UW attempts to win a Big Ten title for the first time since 2008. So, let us dive in to the B1G schedule for the Badgers, shall we?

School: Penn State

Location: State College, PA

Undergrad Enrollment: 40,085

2013-14 record: (16-18, 6-12 B1G)

Top returning players: D.J. Newbill (17.8 pts, 4.8 rebounds); Brandon Taylor (9.2 pts, 4.9 rebounds); Ross Travis (8.2 pts, 7.0 rebounds).

Who’d win in a mascot fight?: What the hell is a Nittany Lion, right? Well it appears to be just a mountain lion. Have you seen a Badger ever back down from another animal. While the mountain lion may have the size advantage, the Badger wins because its tenacious enough and fast enough to never get caught.

One interesting major: Biobehavioral Health

One fact to help you win your local trivia night: The Berkey Creamery is the largest University creamery in the world. 4.5 million pounds of milk passes through the Creamery each year thanks, in part, to a herd of 225 cows on Penn State’s dairy production research center.

Prediction: When the Badgers and Nittany Lions get together there’s a high probability that things get weird. The two teams have a crazy propensity to play close games…oh, and some ugly ones at that. Even last season was no different, as UW beat Penn State 71-66 in the only meeting between the two. Wisconsin gets Penn State twice this season, with UW playing host to start the season and taking a trip to Happy Valley in mid-February. Pat Chambers is getting his PSU program heading in the right direction, but the Badgers have big time goals in mind, and that means finally beating Penn State big (and twice).
