Big Ten Basketball Week Preview: November 10-16

It’s finally the first week of regular season basketball! Each Monday we will go through the B1G games of the week and give brief predictions. Once conference play hits, the analysis will get deeper and we will discuss what outcome best helps the Badgers. As of now, B1G wins are good for the conference as a whole, as the higher the conference is regarded heading into January, the better the eventual RPI will be.

With that said, let’s jump into the first week.

Game of the week:

Minnesota at Louisville

It’s almost like clockwork now that Minnesota will battle for the top of the conference yet fade just enough to fall out of that top group. Last year that concluded in a NIT championship. It’s something to build on, and a win at Louisville would be huge for Pitino’s bunch.  The Cardinals, starting their stay in the ACC, feature a tough duo of 6’8 Montrezl Harrell and 6’10 Mangok Mathiang. The Golden Gophers will have to figure out a way to penetrate the lane or be forced to live and die on the outside game. I don’t see the Gophers having enough to beat their coach’s dad.
