Big Ten Basketball Week Preview: Dec 1-7

-3

It’s that time of year again as the Big Ten/ACC Challenge kicks off tonight. It’s got a different feel to it as both conferences continue to expand as we have match-ups such as Virginia at Maryland and Rutgers at Clemson. I’ll go more into depth on the challenge after we get to the predictions.

Event of the Week

The event of the week, and arguably of all pre-conference play, is the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. As I mentioned earlier, it has a different look to it this year, and although the ACC doesn’t have to send Boston College, there are still a lot of great match-ups to look at. As you can see, I have predicted a 7-7 tie. I promise I’m not trying to ride the fence, in fact, I went back and checked the standings after I predicted for that particular reason. I see a lot of road teams winning, which could throw the whole thing off, as there will be at least one upset. The marque match-up is definitely Duke at Wisconsin, with both teams in the top four in the country. Also, being the last game to tip, it wouldn’t surprise me that one of the teams will need a win to tie the overall standings. I’m also very interested in seeing both the Ohio State/Louisville and Virginia/Maryland game. The Ohio State/Louisville game seems like an elite eight match-up and Maryland should be rocking with a top ten ACC team coming into their building.
