Pitt’s Paul Chryst is fully expected to become the next Wisconsin Badgers head coach and on Monday reputable coaching site, CoachingSearch.com, is reporting that the only thing standing in the way is the human resources process at Wisconsin. That means the waiting game plays out until Wednesday when the worst kept secret in the state of Wisconsin finally can be announced (probably on Thursday knowing the slow nature of official news).
The site has been on top of almost every hire this offseason, and they also have a lot to say about what the coaching staff is going to look like at UW under Chryst. It appears that both offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph and defensive coordinator Matt House are coming with.
However, according to the report all may not be as it seems with one of those coaches. Here is the full blurb from CoachingSearch.com:
CoachingSearch has learned that Paul Chryst will indeed be the Badgers’ next head coach. Human resources has to take its course. Pitt defensive coordinator / linebackers coach Matt House is expected to follow Chryst, but not as the defensive coordinator. Pitt offensive coordinator / tight ends coach Joe Rudolph will also be a part of Chryst’s staff. Rudolph previously coached at Wisconsin from 2008-11 as tight ends coach.
Having House join the staff, but not as coordinator is an interesting move. It signals what we’ve been hearing from day one of this entire situation — Dave Aranda is going to be staying on at UW and most of the rest of the staff will as well.
Before becoming defensive coordinator the last two years, House was the secondary coach in 2012 and added coordinator duties to that in 2013. He switched to coaching linebackers this past season, so it really will be interesting to see what role House plays on the staff if the reporting is accurate.
