Wisconsin Badgers’ starting point guard Traevon Jackson injured his foot during Sunday’s loss to Rutgers. On Monday the athletic department announced that Jackson will undergo surgery for the yet-to-be publicly diagnosed foot injury.
According to the school’s press release Jackson won’t be able to begin rehab for two to three weeks.
“I’m just trying to enjoy the process, learn from this and trust in Christ,” Jackson said. “I know my teammates will come together and be stronger because of this. I’m looking forward to coming back mentally stronger than ever and more prepared to win championships and finish off the year and the seniors’ careers the right way.”
Jackson has been a stalwart for the Badgers, starting each of the last 84 games for Wisconsin. He has averaged 9.4 points per game, leads the team with 49 assists on the season and was sixth in the Big Ten in free throw percentage at 85.4 percent.
For his career, Jackson is averaging 7.7 points per game, 2.8 assists per game and 78.1 percent from the free throw line.
With Jackson out for an extended time, look for the Badgers to start Bronson Koenig at the point. Koenig is averaging 4.9 points and 2.1 assists per game, while shooting 42.1 percent from the field this season.
Should starting center Frank Kaminsky also be out on Thursday against Nebraska look for Duje Dukan to slide in to the starting lineup for the first time in his career too.
