The Badgers went hard and heavy in to one of the Dallas area’s biggest football schools under previous head coach Gary Andersen. UW hit South Oak Cliff high school hard, looking for the hidden gem at cornerback and landing two in the forms of X’zaviae Ausborne and Takadrae Williams.
However, according to our recruiting partners at Badger247 neither will be signing with the Badgers on Feb. 4 as part of the 2015 class. Badger247 is reporting that Williams would not have been an academic qualifier at Wisconsin, but neither were priorities for the new coaching staff.
We had heard rumblings that neither were in communication with the Badgers after their primary recruiter, Bill Busch, was not retained by new head coach Paul Chryst. It appears that was indeed the case, and both are moving on from the commitments from the Badgers.
That leaves just one of the trio still a possibility for the Badgers, as 4-star running back will announce a final decision on national signing day between Oklahoma State and his verbal pledge to Wisconsin.
In some ways the writing was on the wall in this situation, with Wisconsin getting heavily involved with a number of players at the position. UW got the commitment of Titus Booker as a cornerback, but are also in for a number of other players at the position.
Wisconsin has gotten involved late with names like Jarius Adams and Benjamin Bascom. They will also play host to Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage cornerback Trenard Davis this weekend, and this could be an easy replacement for the two missing corners.
They also were involved in a heated battle for highly sought after 3-star cornerback Chris Barr, but lost out to South Florida.
So, before you go in to collective freakout mode, remember this is more about evaluation and style of not only Chryst but the rest of the coaching staff. Considering defensive coordinator Dave Aranda was around for the initial recruitment, this change of plans shows the staff is continuously evaluating the options it has.
