After defeating Michigan State 80-69 in the Big 10 conference championship game, the Wisconsin Badgers were rewarded with a No. 1 seed in the West Region.
Wisconsin outscored Michigan State 11-0 in overtime Sunday, as the Badgers (31-3) rallied from 11 points down in the second half. The win for Wisconsin was their 31st of the season, tying the program record.
The Badgers were first in the Big 10 regular season standings, going 16-2 and finishing two games above the Maryland Terrapins. Forward Frank Kaminsky is the front-runner for player of the year in college basketball, averaging 18.2 points and eight rebounds a game. After a challenging Final Four loss in last year’s NCAA Tournament, Wisconsin is back to rectify the situation.
Wisconsin got paired up with 16th seeded Coast Carolina for their first tournament action. The game is on Friday, March 20th in Omaha, Nebraska. Assuming Wisconsin doesn’t become the first No. 1 seed to lose to a No. 16 seed, Wisconsin will face either the Oregon Ducks or Oklahoma State Sooners.
According to TiqIQ.com, Wisconsin tickets for March 20th against Coastal Carolina have an average ticket price of $229.75 with a walk-in price of $61 at CenturyLink Center Omaha. This also includes the game between Oregon and Oklahoma State.
The Badgers went 16-2 on the road this season, so they know how to perform on the road, which serves them well in the NCAA Tournament. It also helps that they have a rabid fan base, which we all know will show up to any tournament site for a game.
Hipmunk.com is your go to resource for booking flights and hotels to see NCAA Tournament action. From only $55, Hipmunk has hotels in Omaha that will allow you to see two Wisconsin Badgers games. Need to fly to the game? According to Hipmunk, flights to Omaha range from $307 for a roundtrip to cheer on the Badgers at the most important time in their season.
If they reach the end of their region, Wisconsin’s largest test will be the Arizona Wildcats, the Baylor Bears and the North Carolina Tar Heels.
