Badgers add in-state defensive end Luke Benzschawel

Little brother following in big brother’s footsteps, it’s becoming a Wisconsin Badgers football tradition. There are the Watt brothers, the Biegel brothers and countless others before them.

As of Friday afternoon you can add Grafton, Wisconsin’s own Benzschawel brothers to the mix. That’s because Beau’s little brother (who isn’t so little), Luke Benzschawel, was offered a scholarship after Friday’s practice and he accepted on the spot.

It was a bit of a surprising offer, especially this early in the process. Before Friday Benzschawel had exactly zero offers from the FCS and FBS schools combined. However, the Badgers didn’t hesitate to offer the 6-7, 220-pound defensive end.

With his verbal pledge, the Badgers now have three members of the 2016 class and the first in-state product in the fold as well.

He joins four-star running back Antonio Williams and 3-star quarterback and Badgers legacy Kare’ Lyles.

While the offers haven’t been quick to come along, it appears the Badger coaching staff identified a defensive end with athletic ability and a body that clearly has some room to grow in to.

This is exactly the under-the-radar type of recruit the Badgers were famous for under Bret Bielema and the current coaching staff is keen to pick up on.
