Joe Schobert named Big Ten Linebacker of the Year

After leading one of the best defenses in the history of the University of Wisconsin football program, senior outside linebacker Joe Schobert was recognized as the Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year.

The award was announced on Monday night in a special broadcast of BTN Live dedicated to naming the defensive awards and All-Big Ten lists.

Along with the Linebacker of the Year award, Schobert was also named 1st team All-Big Ten by the coaches and media.

It was an obvious pick for many, as he finished the regular season with 76 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss (third in the Big Ten), 9.5 sacks (third in the B1G), one interception, one fumble recovery and two pass break ups.

He joins Chris Borland, who won the award in 2013, as the only Badgers players to win the award upon its introduction in 2011.

Penn State also has two players who won that award, with Michael Mauti taking it in 2012 and Mike Hull winning it last season.
