CSNNE’s Sherrod Blakely has this information, per a league source:
A league source said the C’s continue to be enamored with the 6-foot-5 shooting guard, and are considering making another run at him.
The source said no deal is imminent, but it appears the Celtics are willing to offer up Brandon Bass via a sign and trade.
Bass, who opted out of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, would have to agree to such a deal.
While the trading away of Bass might seem a bit lopsided at first, consider this.
By moving him for Mayo, the C’s address the need for a scoring guard who can compliment Rajon Rondo’s playmaking and Avery Bradley’s prowess as a defender.
In addition, it frees up the Celtics to focus on adding a big man with one of their first round picks.
My initial reaction is that I don’t like this deal. But… what are the Celtics going to do with Bass if KG doesn’t play center next year? Are you going to pay Bass $6-7 million to come off the bench? Don’t forget about Jeff Green.
Mayo is an athletic wing who can score. Not known for busting his butt on defense. He only fits if Ray Allen goes.
The Globe’s Gary Washburn has a source who claims this rumored trade talk is untrue.
UPDATE: I’ve been told Sherrod Blakely refuted his own report during last night’s draft coverage on CSNNE. It doesn’t appear that CSNNE made the changes to the web story.
