Head Coaches and Quarterbacks are always going to be given a win-loss record next to their name; with that being said, Tony Romo is 0-2 on the road against a Ken Whisenhunt led team. With Jason Garrett as the Offensive Coordinator or Head Coach, the Cowboys are 0-3. I wouldn’t necessarily say Whisenhunt owns the Cowboys, but he does have a formula to beat Garrett and Romo.
Will Sunday’s game put Whisenhunt at a perfect 4-0?
History is probably on Whisenhunt’s side, but let’s look at the good.
In 2008, Romo lost, but he had a nice game 3 Tds and 0 Ints with 328 passing yards. The game went to overtime and the Cowboys couldn’t close out the game in Arizona.
In 2010, Romo was injured that season, McGee and Kitna played and lost the game.
In 2011, Romo lost, but he he had a solid game statistically, 1 TD 0 Ints with 299 yards. This game too went to overtime and the Cowboys lost in Arizona.
So, if we’re looking for Romo to “return to form,” then history says he’ll have a solid game versus Whisenhunt. What we need from Romo and Co. is a win, just find a way to close out the Titans and come home with the “W.”
The Cowboys will bring an improved offensive line to Tennessee, but they will be challenged by the defense. Zack Martin will have his hands full as they face Ray Horton’s attacking 3-4 defense, so this will be a battle to watch closely. Martin has been a solid addition to the offensive line, but this regular season game will test him.
I do like our defensive matchup against the Titans offensive line, and if we can get to Jake Locker, he’ll get rattled and throw some bad passes. Last week, our defense held their own and certainly looked better than their 2013 version. We should see our first game action from DT, Terrell McClain, so the run defense should be a bit more stout, but we’ll see how many snaps McClain gets.
Henry Melton is being worked into the lineup and will see more snaps, but we’ll see a fresh rotation with Davon Coleman in there at the 3-tech. We may also see rookie LB, Anthony Hitchens in place of the injured Justin Durant. Hitchens showed flashes during the preseason, but he also had his “rookie moments” as well. Getting Hitchens in the game will probably suit the Cowboys well, as he’ll likely move into a full-time starter role in 2015. If he can get his feet wet and keep a starting role now, then this will help the Cowboys down the road when it comes to next year’s linebacker corps. decisions.
