Work At A Smile, And Go For A Ride

I guess this is the one where we tell you that Matt Harvey can't win 'em all, that the infrequent failures make the successes that much more thrilling. That there's no shame in losing to a team that has gone 39-8 in their last 47 games.

But we will also tell you that there are going to be those hitters who you wouldn't think would ever touch Harvey that will have the most success against him. Zack Cozart had four hits against him one day. Juan Pierre is five for nine against him. And now, the Dodgers who have done the damage against Harvey on Tuesday were not Adrian Gonzalez or Matt Kemp. Nick Punto had the big two run single. Mark Ellis had two hits. A.J. Ellis had the other two run single. Sure, Yasiel Puig had two hits against him, but that must be some sort of market inefficiency created by Satan or Larry Jones to throw off the trail.

But such is life, and it's all just a fancy way of saying that Matt Harvey had a bad day, no matter the names on the back of the Dodgers' jerseys … big or small. Eight hits and two walks in six innings is very Anti-Harvey, and it could have been worse than four runs had it not been for three double plays. But again, this wasn't like his bad days against the Marlins, which are just infuriating because they're the Marlins. This was a bad day against a good team. Not worth losing sleep over.

Now if you want to lose sleep over something, imagine Wilmer Flores in traction. Well, you can't be put into traction for a sprained ankle … at least until Ray Ramirez gets a hold of it. Sleep tight.
