Insult to Injury

It’s one thing to get swept by the worst team in baseball. It’s another thing to allow the opposing pitcher to hit a two-run home run and drive in three runs. Jacob deGrom did not have his best stuff clearly, but when you are giving up home runs to a pitcher, all I can say is “welcome to the Mets.” I’ve lost count of how many home runs I have witnessed live at Citi Field or at Shea by the opposing pitcher. Two being Kris Benson’s solo shot off of Pedro Martinez and Dontrelle Willis’s grand slam in 2006. You can add this one to the list.

Insult to Injury

Yes, this was the same guy who took deGrom deep. What makes matters worse is that the guy pitched horribly. Giving up five walks in 5 innings. Come on now! It’s like kicking someone while there already down. Yes, this team came back from four-runs down, but at the end of the day, they got swept. Again the bullpen did not do its job. Vic Black in all of his glory gave up the go-ahead home run to Anthony Rizzo. Jenrry Mejia got roughed up for two-runs in the 8th. That sealed it for the Cubs who won 7-4.
