In case you missed it, Terry Collins joined my friends at Sports Talk NY Live last night and talked about working with Sandy Alderson, Wilmer Flores’ shortstop abilities, and who has the best chance to break camp in the rotation. The most fascinating part to me was his explanation about the made-up and ridiculous “Jose Reyes Batting Chase Controversy Of 2011”, where he explains his thought process regarding pulling him after the bunt single. If that doesn’t make you change your mind about the vilification of Jose Reyes (which to me was just an excuse to feel better about his eventual signing with someone else), then nothing will. Say what you want about Collins … and we will, his thought process on that was absolutely spot on. It was part of a larger discussion about backing your players and getting them on your side, even if it means hurtful words from stupid bloggers like myself.
So take a listen to this thoughtful and insightful interview. And remember that you can listen to interviews like these every Sunday night from 7:00-8:30 on WLIE 540 AM, and if you can get through the weekly baseball report with that awful, awful person with the grating voice and the minimal knowledge of baseball and life that they have doing it at 7:02, the rest of the show is extremely good. And go ahead and give them a Facebook like and a Twitter follow so you can keep track of the multitude of Mets interviews they’ll do during Mets Fantasy Camp this January.
