[Insert Christmas Pun Here] as Celtics dominate final Orlando Game

Summer league part one is over for the Celtics, and the story of this game is Dionte Christmas.

He dominated the first half of this game as the Celtics built a huge lead… waxing the Orlando Magic by 21.  Christmas, who will not be playing for the Celtics in Las Vegas, wowed us with an array of jumpers and drives dropping 21 points on 7-14 shooting (3-7 3pt).

E’Twaun Moore bounced back from yesterday’s disappointing game to hit 6 of 10 shots for 18 points as well as steadily running the Celtics as he progresses as a point guard.  JaJuan Johnson hit a few more mid-range shots, and is taking them with more and more confidence now.  Fab Melo grabbed 10 rebounds… which is nice.  We won’t talk about his offense.

Kris Joseph played the first quarter and sat after that.  Jared Sullinger got the day off.

All in all, a very positive week for the Celtics in the first camp.  Sullinger has impressed, as has Kris Joseph.  The fact that both got rest shows that the Celtics have seen what they need to see for now, and they’re letting the guys get their legs back before Vegas.  Moore is really progressing nicely as well, and I’d be surprised if the C’s don’t guarantee his deal.

Again, this is just summer league and success here doesn’t translate to success in the NBA, but if you’re looking for signs that these guys are giving themselves a chance, you’ll find them this week.  They are doing things fundamentally that provide confidence and optimism.

On to Vegas next week.
