Game Talk – 5/13/09: Knuckle Up – Red Sox @ Angels

Boston Red Sox (21-12) @ Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (16-15)

Starters: BOS – Tim Wakefield (4-1, 2.93 ERA)  LAA – Matt Palmer (3-0, 3.06 ERA)

Game Info: 7:05 PM PT TV-Fox Sports West, Radio-KLAA 830 AM, KFWB, KWKW 1330 AM

While the Angels’ bullpen was busy coughing up a two-run lead, just down the street the Anaheim Ducks were doing the exact opposite, gutting out a series-saving win while trying to hold a two-score lead of their own.

Ducks rough up the Wings

So tonight, it is on the Angels to show some grit and bounce back to take on the Red Sox.  They’ll literally have to knuckle up as they are facing ageless knuckleballer Tim Wakefield.

Questions of the Night:

  • Can the Angel offense get back on track?  They haven’t scored over four runs in four games now and have the unenviable task of trying to adjust to a knuckleballer now which will either get them off the schneid or screw up their timing even more.
  • Will Matt Palmer’s Cinderella story continue or will the clock strike midnight?  With Kevin Youkilis and Dustin Pedroia both ailing, Palmer has a much easier task than normal versus the BoSox, but now that there are three games worth of tape on him out there, it is getting to a point where opposing hitters might start figuring him out.

As always, hang out with us here, leave a comment and join the discussion during the game.
