- The Story: Torii Hunter drops some knowledge on Brandon Wood. The Monkey Says: Torii was there to offer Woody some encouragement after Brandon’s tough start to 2010, displaying the exact kind of leadership we have come to expect from Hunter over the last few years. Whatever Hunter said clearly paid off because Wood was much more relaxed at the plate last night.
- The Story: Bobby Abreu is basking in the glory of Aybar’s new patience. The Monkey Says: Abreu had to be very proud after seeing Aybar draw two walks in a game for the first time since June 2008 in Tuesday’s loss. At what point though do we stop pretending that Mickey Hatcher is still the real batting coach of this team and not Bobby Abreu?
- The Story: The Angels set the world record for most people wearing a blanket last night. The Monkey Says: Yes, it was just as stupid as it sounds.
- The Story: Brian Fuentes is off to a blazing start. The Monkey Says: “Blazing” is an interesting word to use in that title seeing how Tito’s fastball maxed out at 89 mph last night. Maybe we should save the puff pieces on Fuentes for a few more weeks and make him prove that he is back in All-Star form first.
- The Story: The Angels are flawed but could still win the AL West. The Monkey Says: They say that as if every other team in baseball isn’t flawed. The Angels have their issues but they hardly seem like bigger issues than what the team faced last season, so I (incredibly biased as I might be) see no reason they can’t rattle off another division title.
- The Story: Bobby Wilson is emotionally tested. The Monkey Says: Not only did Wilson make the roster, but he also stayed back in Arizona after training camp to watch Nick Adenhart’s brother pitch in a high school game. That would be an emotional week for even for even the hardest of hearts.
- The Story: The Angels will travel the most miles of of any baseball team this year. The Monkey Says: The Angels always travel a ton and somehow I think they will find a way to cope with logging all those frequent flyer miles in their plush luxury charter jet.
- The Story: 2011 contract issues for the Angels. The Monkey Says: The Halos have few key free agents this coming off-season but could see their payroll skyrocket via arbitration, so it is hard to say what their spending ability will be in the winter, but really, that is too far off to worry about right now.
