Counting down to the Angels’ game against the Tigers and the much-needed return of Brian Fuentes.

5. Brian Fuentes has been activated for this game and, boy, do the Angels need him. Scot Shields and Jason Bulger are a total mess right now and Kevin Jepsen and Fernando Rodney are in danger of getting overworked incredibly early in the season. Wow, did I really just write that I looked forward to Fuentes being available? I never would have saw that one coming.
4. If Mike Napoli is going to be the full-time catcher now, I think Mike Scioscia almost has to start Maicer Izturis at third. The Angels offense needs action guys like Izturis in the line-up and fewer guys who swing and miss a lot, but that is what they have in Wood and Napoli. I want Wood to succeed, but I also want the Angel line-up to be properly balanced and I think that can only be achieved with Maicer Izturis.
3. With an Angel win and Oakland loss tonight, the Halos actually could end the evening tied for first-place in the AL West. I am pretty sure if I told you that one week ago, you have called me stupid and laughed at me mercilessly.
2. Man am I glad the Angels replaced Mathis on the roster with Robb Quinlan. I definitely wouldn’t have wanted Michael Ryan and his .939 OPS for the Salt Lake Bees, the same team for which Q had an OPS of .483 before his recall. But at least Quinlan had a terrible spring and Ryan had a great one. Sometimes making baseball transactions make so much sense, it blows my mind.
1. Can Weaver keep the string of great Angel starts going? Since he has been dominant all season long, I see no reason why he couldn’t, but then again, that line of thinking is usually exactly what ends up jinxing things, so let’s just forget we ever had this conversation.
