- The Story: The Angels have set their second-half rotation. The Monkey Says: Joel Pineiro starts things off with Jered Weaver second (which is normal rest for him since he pitched on Sunday), Saunders third, Santana fourth and Kazmir bringing up the rear (in more ways than one). The shocker here is that Kazmir is still in the rotation and not even having his turn skipped the first time through which the Angels could have easily done. His first start will come against the Yankees, a team he has a long track record of success against (prior to the fateful 2009 ALCS), so maybe that matchup could get him back on track… ummmm, right.
- The Story: Tony Reagins still thinks the Angels can win the AL West. The Monkey Says: Translation: I am going to make a trade and I don’t believe that the Cliff Lee trade guarantees the Rangers the division title. I agree, Tony. I agree.
- The Story: Veteran leaders keep the Halos afloat. The Monkey Says: I assume that assertion applies to their locker room leadership because the poor recent on-field performance of Bobby Abreu, Hideki Matsui and Juan Rivera are a big reason that the Angels stumbled into the break.
- The Story: The 2010 All-Star Game received its lowest TV rating ever. The Monkey Says: I think it is safe to say Anaheim won’t be asked to host again anytime soon, not that the Angels did anything wrong. I guess people just don’t care that much about exhibition games anymore.
- The Story: The Dodgers have placed George Sherrill on waivers. The Monkey Says: I post this because the Angels need to start taking a look at guys like Sherrill who is not far removed from being one of the top lefty relievers in the league. He has been absolutely terrible this year, so claiming him and his remaining salary is a bad idea, but if he clears waivers and opts for free agency, the Angels should bring him in and see if they can’t fix him and get themselves a quality bullpen addition for virtually nothing.
