The Monkey Says: I really don’t like this idea, but since the Halos kicked the tires on ManRam back at the trade deadline, they are going to be linked to him until he signs somewhere. If the Angels are willing to suffer through another season of Abreu in the field, Ramirez could be an upgrade over Juan Rivera at DH, but that would largely depend on how much Ramirez gets paid.

The Story: Rafael Soriano faces major issue in getting a long-term deal in the current free agent market.
The Monkey Says: The article is not Angel specific, but rather talks about how Soriano is trying to find a long-term deal in a market where most teams have taken a firm stance against giving contracts of three or more years to relievers… well, everyone except the Angels (I think you see where I am going with this now). Already, the Halos have handed a possibly ill-advised three-year deal to Scott Downs, so they obviously are not afraid to go that long on a deal. If all the other teams interested in Soriano refuse to go beyond two years, it might give the Angels a chance to step in with a three-year deal and steal him for a more reasonable annual salary. It remains to be seen just how much interest the Angels have in Soriano, though the pairing does keep coming up in media speculation (and I’m not just talking about this blog).
