Mark Trumbo and the ROY Vote: Triumph, Travesty or Triviality?

The American League Rookie of the Year vote has become quite controversial amongst Angel fans after Mark Trumbo finished as the runner-up in the vote.  Some are outraged that he didn’t win.  Others think he was lucky to get so many votes.  Still more wonder why anyone cares.  Where do you come down on the issue?

Mark Trumbo

Trumbombs or Trumbust?  You make the call!

A) Trumbo got robbed!  Me likey TRUMBOMBS!!!  29 homers from a rookie is a huge accomplishment, especially in this day and age.  He had a better ISO than MVP candidate Adrian Gonzalez and almost as good as MVP candidates Robinson Cano and Jacoby Ellsbury.  Oh and he led all qualified AL rookies in HR, 2B, RBU ISO, and SLG%.  OBP is not the end all be all, power is what drives runs in!

B) Trumbo got lucky to finish as well as he did.  Trumbo has a .291 OBP, the league average is .321.  The guy is an out machine and likely negated as many potential runs as his homers created.  We should not reward a player with tragically awful plate discipline just because he swings really hard and occasionally runs into a pitch.

C) Who cares?  It is just an award.  Winning or losing the Rookie of the Year award means less than nothing when it comes to how successful a career a player will have.

Want to vote?  Just find the poll in the gray sidebar to the right.  And feel free to comment too, because arguing is so much more fun than voting… which is probably why so few people vote in political elections yet so many people watch political talk shows.  Wait, what were talking about?  Oh, yeah, Trumbo.  Voice your opinion, NOW!

EDITOR’S NOT – Apparently all the new widgets and ad units have pushed the poll pretty far down the page, so, I apologize for all the scrolling.  I’ll have to figure out something different going forward.  Thank you for your patience, or rather the lack thereof because I have had more people complain about how hard it is to find the poll than I have had vote in the poll.
