So here we go. We all know how good Mike Trout has been in the minors. What we forgot is what we saw in his time up last year in the majors. In his brief time in the big leagues, young Mike hit like .230 and struggled to get on base. Of course, that was last year and Trout has been crushing AAA pitching for the past month, so there is ample hope that he will come up this time and be more successful, but I think we are all getting ahead of ourselves if we think he will fix all the Angels ills.
For example, Trout can’t fix the bullpen. If those guys don’t get their act together then all this talk of an offensive spark is moot. But I guess if the Angels actually had a lead of more than one run at some point, then the pressure on the bullpen would lighten. Maybe having Trout lead off would mean someone might be on base when Albert Pujols comes to bat, which in turn would give him a better shot at hitting the ball out of the park. And obviously his defense will be a welcome sight for Angel’s pitchers.
Okay, I’ve talked myslf into it. Mike Trout will save Anaheim’s season!!
