Angels Player Power Rankings – Week 12

We now know which team rules Southern California (was there ever any doubt?), so now we must ask which Angel reigns supreme above the rest?  (HINT: It isn’t Bobby Wilson)

As always, the rankings are based on a player’s overall season performance with a weight on recent performance.

RANK PLAYER CHANGE COMMENTS
1 Mike Trout green arrow up+1
Last Week: 2
Mike TroutHo-hum, just another week with a 1.157 OPS for your typical 20-year old MVP.
2 Mark Trumbo Red arrow down-1
Last Week: 1
Mark Trumbo – Trumbo walked just once in his last ten games.  I’m just saying.
3 Jered Weaver — 0
Last Week: n/a
Jered Weaver With Weaver back, the Angels feel complete once again.
4 Albert Pujols — 0
Last Week: 4
Albert Pujols – With no strikeouts this week, Albert is slowly getting his BB/K ratio back to normal.  It is currently 25:34.  He hasn’t had more strikeouts than walks since his rookie year.
5 C.J. Wilson Red arrow down-2
Last Week: 3
C.J. Wilson – His win over the Giants probably came a few months too late for Rangers fans.  Forgive me if I don’t shed a tear on their behalf.
6 Ernesto Frieri Red arrow down-1
Last Week: 5
Ernesto Frieri – It has reached a point where Ernasty’s dominance is so complete that I am almost not even impressed by it anymore… almost.
7 Scott Downs — 0
Last Week: 7
Scott Downs – With as good as he has been this season, it is hard to believe it took him until this weekend to pick up his first win of the year.  Not that pitcher wins matter, but still.
8 Torii Hunter Red arrow down-2
Last Week: 6
Torii Hunter – Uh oh, it is starting to look like Old Man Hunter needs to double up on his daily Centrum Silver dosage.
9 Howie Kendrick Red arrow down-1
Last Week: 8
Howie Kendrick – Howie had some more doubles this week which almost makes me want to point out how long he has gone homerless, but that would be petty and mean. (It was May 2nd)
10 Alberto Callaspo Red arrow down-1
Last Week: 9
Alberto Callaspo – His ever-rising offensive numbers are really annoying for guys like me who really want to pretend to be GM and conjure up trades for “real” third basemen.
11 LaTroy Hawkins Red arrow down-1
Last Week: 10
LaTroy Hawkins – There is no situation in which Mike Scioscia will not use LaTroy Hawkins.
12 Garrett Richards green arrow up+1
Last Week: 13
Garrett Richards – I’m no accusing Richards of anything, but Williams’ first asthma attack in over 20 years was pretty well timed for Garrett.  A little too well timed.
13 Ervin Santana green arrow up+2
Last Week: 15
Ervin Santana – Don’t focus on him losing his start this week, focus on him fanning 10 batters and walking none of them.
14 Jason Isringhausen green arrow up+2
Last Week: 16
Jason Isringhausen – Don’t look now, but Izzy might now be a central part of the Angel bullpen.
15 Kendrys Morales Red arrow down-3
Last Week: 12
Kendrys Morales – This just in: Kendrys Morales still can’t hit lefties, so, you know, stop it, Mike Scioscia.
16 Dan Haren Red arrow down-5
Last Week: 11
Dan Haren – OK, now that Santana appears to be fixed, we can all start freaking out over Haren now, right?
17 Erick Aybar — 0
Last Week: 17
Erick Aybar – I’m almost scared to mention how well he has been hitting in the same way I’m concerned that Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow and skitter back in his hole, damning us to six more weeks of sub-Mendoza line hitting… or something like that.  I may not understand how Groundhog’s Day works.
18 Jerome Williams Red arrow down-4
Last Week: 14
Jerome Williams Jokes aside, as someone who has been hospitalized with asthma himself, that situation had to be frightening for him.  Get better, Jerome.
19 Peter Bourjos — 0
Last Week: 19
Peter Bourjos – Free Peter Bourjos!!!!
20 Jordan Walden — 0
Last Week: 20
Jordan Walden – Waldo finally got to pitch in a ninth inning this week.  Probably not the way he had in mind though.
21 Hisanori Takahashi Red arrow down-3
Last Week: 18
Hisanori Takahashi – Something weird happened this week, Taka left a game with an injured hip and I was actually worried that he might have to go on the disabled list.
22 John Hester Red arrow down-1
Last Week: 21
John Hester – Hester has not thrown out a base stealer since June 4th.
23 Bobby Wilson — 0
Last Week: n/a
Bobby Wilson – Getting Wilson back off the DL in the same week as Weaver is like going through your bag of candy after trick-or-treating on Halloween, getting all excited about the candy and then finding that one random box of raisins some weird old lady gave you.
24 Maicer Izturis Red arrow down-1
Last Week: 23
Maicer Izturis – It was bad enough that Maicer wasn’t hitting, but now he can’t catch or throw either.
25 David Carpenter Red arrow down-1
Last Week: 24
David Carpenter – The 2002 Angels had Ben Weber and his goofy glasses.  Carpenter wears the same glasses.  I’m just saying.

Biggest Riser: Ervin Santana and Jason Isringhausen, up two spots

Biggest Dropper: Dan Haren, down five spots

Added to the rankings: Bobby Wilson (activated from DL), Jered Weaver (activated from DL)

Dropped from rankings: David Pauley (waived), Hank Conger (demoted because… um, because… wait, why was he demoted again?)
