Jered Weaver should buy Wednesday afternoon’s line-up dinner.
It’s not often that Weaver owes his offense a pat on the back for giving him some leeway during a game, but after five innings of uncharacteristic control issues, his offense came through with a plethora of runs.
The Angels managed to score eight runs in the first four innings with the help of just about everyone in the line-up (sans Albert Pujols, who was not in the game due to soreness.)
So far this season, the Halos have become known for the famous (infamous to some) “T-N-T” made up of Mike Trout and Mark Trumbo. But after Torii Hunter went 4-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs, and three runs scored, the one-two punch at the beginning of the line-up deserves some recognition.
In the beginning of the season, Hunter struggled at the plate, giving critics and fans reason to believe he was headed for his decline period. Now that Hunter has secured a spot in the two-hole following Trout, he is hitting over .300 and is accumulating more RBIs.
The fact that the Angels’ line-up chemistry has been evident for a couple of months now, it’s comforting to know that this team can put up over 10 runs in a game. I never thought I’d see the Halos offense put up numbers like these this season.
There are still two months left in the season and our newest one-two punch is just getting warmed up.
