Angels Player Power Rankings - Week 17

As always, the rankings are based on a player’s overall season performance with a weight on recent performance.

1		— 0 Last Week: 1	Mike Trout – This was arguably a week-long slump for Trout. He still posted a .768 OPS over that span.
2		— 0 Last Week: 2	Jered Weaver – For only the second time this season (not including the start he left with his back injury) Weaver failed to go six or more innings.
3		+1 Last Week: 4	Mark Trumbo – Yet another reason for the Halos’ poor offensive production, we went a whole week without a Trumbomb. At eight games (and counting) it is his second-longest homer drought of the season, which is actually pretty damn impressive when you think about it.
4		-1 Last Week: 3	Albert Pujols – Want to know why the Angel lineup is slumping? First look at Trout’s comment, then look at Pujols reverting to April form with his .578 OPS this week. One can’t help but wonder how much his array of injuries are affecting him.
5		— 0 Last Week: 5	C.J. Wilson – Wilson just can’t win in July, but he also hasn’t been real great about following his own advice and throwing strikes, though he did much better this week only four walks over 13 innings.
6		— 0 Last Week: n/a	Zack Greinke – Welcome aboard, Zack! Uh, sorry about that whole home winning-streak thing. Try not to hold it against the Angels when they come calling about a contract extension.
7		— 0 Last Week: 7	Dan Haren – I want to make fun of his Amish beard more, but it seems to be working for him, so instead, I am going to celebrate Rumspringa!
8		-2 Last Week: 6	Ernesto Frieri – Another run allowed this week, but I prefer to think of that more as regression to the mean than any actual reason for concern. Statistic-based cognitive dissonance is the best kind of cognitive dissonance.
9		-1 Last Week: 8	Torii Hunter – The old man of the club might be the only hitter pulling his weight right now, which probably means he is due for a re-aggravation of his groin injury in 3… 2… 1…
10		-1 Last Week: 9	Scott Downs – With Downs still a mess and Taka demoted, trading for another left-handed reliever is an absolute must, right?
11		-1 Last Week: 10	Alberto Callaspo – Every time Callaspo slumps, I start wondering if the Trumbo-at-third experiment needs to be re-instantiated.
12		+4 Last Week: 16	LaTroy Hawkins – A flawless week seems to have gotten Hawk back into the late-inning mix after he inexplicably fell down the depth chart after the break.
13		-2 Last Week: 11	Kendrys Morales – Now that the Angels got their starting pitcher upgrade, can we start talking about trading for an upgrade at DH?
14		+1 Last Week: 15	Jason Isringhausen – With Dipoto getting so much love for the Greinke trade, he should also get some love for picking the quietly effective Isringhausen off the scrap heap before the season. Literally every move JeDi has made this season has worked out great for the Halos.
15		— 0 Last Week: n/a	Chris Iannetta – Wait, the Angels have a catcher that can kind of hit AND throw out baserunners? Was this in the news????
16		-3 Last Week: 13	Howie Kendrick – The Angels really lack lineup depth and one of the big reasons why is Howie Kendrick’s inability to catch fire for even one week.
17		+1 Last Week: 18	Peter Bourjos – I didn’t think it would happen, but in a little more than 24 hours the Angels will have gotten through the trade deadline without dealing away Speedy Petey.
18		+2 Last Week: 20	Kevin Jepsen – This week Jepsen made three appearances and allowed no homers, walks or runs. That explosion you just heard was my mind.
19		-7 Last Week: 12	Garrett Richards – Richards probably still deserves the fifth starter spot, but every time he has a chance to lock the spot down, he is just bad enough to create some doubt, thus Ervin Santana starting tonight’s game instead of Garrett.
20		+1 Last Week: 21	Jerome Williams – If he keeps pitching this well in long relief, he might just get his starting gig back.
21		-2 Last Week: 19	Bobby Wilson – Oh sure, thanks, Bobby. You pick the week that Iannetta comes back to finally start hitting. Great timing.
22		-5 Last Week: 17	Maicer Izturis – Maicer still isn’t hitting, but what is really killing the Angels is that he isn’t fielding well either.
23		— 0 Last Week: n/a	Vernon Wells – Wells is back and picking up exactly where he left off. That is not a compliment, but you knew that already.
24		+1 Last Week: 25	Ervin Santana – There is a very good chance that his start tonight might be his very last game as an Angel.
25		-1 Last Week: 24	Hisanori Takahashi – I finally figured out a good nickname for Taka. “Hisano-longer-in-the-majors.”
