The August 10th, 2012 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim including Leyland thinks Cabrera should be MVP over Trout, Bobby Wilson quits Twitter, Garrett Richards’ knee injury is not serious and much more…
The Story: Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland thinks Miguel Cabrera deserves the MVP over Mike Trout.
The Monkey Says: Leyland calling Trout “Wonderboy” is kind of awesome in a funny sort of way. This is being painted by some as Leyland taking a shot at Trout, but really he is just stumping for his guy, which is what good managers do. Leyland’s main point though rings hollow, in that he thinks Miggy is more deserving because he has a more establish track record, but track record doesn’t factor in at all when you are discussing a single-season award like MVP. This is about what happened in 2012 and nothing more.
The Monkey Says: It doesn’t appear that any one tweet set him off, but he still went and announced his Twitter resignation anyway. This is all kind of weird because on one hand, I have never understood people that say nasty things about a player on Twitter and tweet it directly at the player. I have no problem with people slamming a guy, but why rub his face in it? On the other hand, Wilson should probably have a thicker skin and he probably only made matters worse with his tweet. I feel bad that he is letting the criticism get to him, but he has to realize most of these people are whackos.
The Monkey Says: Phew! His next start is going to be for the Salt Lake Bees, but just knowing that he is available if/when Ervin Santana implodes again should provide Angel fans with a little bit of peace of mind.
The Story: Jered Weaver and fun with pitcher wins.
The Monkey Says: I care not for pitcher wins, but this is pretty interesting nonetheless.
The Story: Team chemistry might be the key to the Angels’ lofty aspirations.
The Monkey Says: God dammit, Lyle Spencer. Chemistry? Really? That’s the problem? Is that why their AARP-heavy bullpen suddenly sucks balls? Is that why C.J. Wilson can’t throw strikes anymore? Is that why Ervin Santana serves up more taters than a Waffle House? Team FREAKING chemistry?!!?!?!?!?!!!!!!
The Story: Albert Pujols talks about battling through his massive struggles in April.
The Monkey Says: He says that he doesn’t use the word “frustrating.” This makes me think he must not pay attention when the Angels bring in a reliever to pitch.
The Story: A look at Angels pitching prospect Nick Maronde.
The Monkey Says: Maronde dominated in his second Double-A start and if he keeps that up, he is going to start getting a lot attention in the prospect circles.
The Story: The harrowing story of the birth and heart problems of former Angel Shawn Wooten’s son.
The Monkey Says: I promised myself… I wouldn’t cry. Seriously though, only the first two parts of this story have been posted and as a guy expecting his second child in a few months, I’m not sure I can handle reading part three.
